About this trip

Ascent of Cerro Solo (2,210m), a glacier mountain often chosen as a first technical objective in the area. Access is by the Laguna Torre trail, crossing the Río Fitz Roy on a zip-line and climbing the Solo stream up to the glacier, with a final snow and ice section of up to 50° before the summit. Total elevation gain around 1,700 m.

Day by day

Day 1

From El Chaltén along the Laguna Torre trail, crossing the Río Fitz Roy on a zip-line, to the bivouac in the lenga forest at the foot of the mountain, at the treeline, with water all year.

Day 2

Summit day: loose rock, then glacier with crampons (initial slope ~30–35°, sections up to 50°), summit at 2,210 m and descent to the bivouac.

Day 3

From the bivouac back to El Chaltén along the same route.
